As the countdown to the Thursday December 12, Episcopal Consecration of Rev. Msgr. Moses Chikwe, as the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese begins, Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, venue of the historic events is already wearing a festive look.
Information available to The Leader shows that the Principal Consecrator will be no other than His Grace, Most Rev. Anthony J.V. Obinna, Catholic Archbishop of Owerri and Metropolitan of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province.
The Co-consecrators are: Their Lordships, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, Bishop of Umuahia/Apostolic Administrator, Ahiara Diocese and Most Rev. Augustine Ukwuoma, Bishop of Orlu Diocese.
His Holiness Pope Francis will be represented at the consecration by the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Grace, Most Rev. Antonio Guido Filipazzi.
Rev. Msgr. Anthony Njoku will present the Bishop-elect. He will be assisted by Rev. FrsCyriacus Akoronye and Bertrand Ujunwa. According to the programme, Rev. Frs. Eustace Okere and Leslie Eluchie will read out the Papal mandate in English and Igbo respectively.
The epoch-making event is expected to attract a mammoth crowd of Christ’s faithful, both Catholics and non-Catholics, including Catholic bishops from various dioceses in Nigeria. A reception will follow after the Mass at the ObiriOdenigbo/Jubilee Hall within the Assumpta Cathedral premises.
A press release issued by Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Oha, Archdiocesan Chancellor/Secretary and Barr. Anthony Emeana (KSJI) Chairman Organizing Committee said Thursday’s Episcopal Consecration will be preceded on Wednesday December 11 by Rosary/Vespers/Benediction, gala night, dinner with cultural entertainment.
Born on April 3, 1967, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe is the last of the ten children of late Mr. Moses Nwamadi Chikwe and Mrs.Anthonia Nwaobiara Chikwe of Umuehihie Uzoagba in Ikeduru LGA, Imo State. He was ordained Catholic priest on July 6, 1996 at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri by Archbishop Obinna.
It would be recalled that on October 17, 2019, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Moses Chikwe the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, assigning him to the Titular See of Flumenzer.
